What Issues Should You Consider During Precision Machining?

When CNC machine tools mass-produce precision parts, particular attention must be paid to machining accuracy. So, what issues should be considered during precision machining? The following three aspects will be discussed:

First, poor machining accuracy for mass-produced parts is generally due to improper adjustment of the feed dynamics between axes during installation and adjustment, or changes in the drive trains of the machine’s axes due to wear and tear. This can be resolved by readjusting and modifying the backlash compensation.

When an alarm sounds due to excessive dynamic tracking error, check: Is the servo motor speed too high? Is the position detection element in good condition? Is the position feedback cable connector in good contact? Are the corresponding analog output latches and gain potentiometers in good condition? Is the corresponding servo drive functioning properly?

Second, poor machining accuracy caused by overshoot during machine movement may be due to short acceleration and deceleration times. The speed change time can be appropriately increased. Alternatively, the connection between the servo motor and the leadscrew is loose or has insufficient rigidity. The position loop gain can be appropriately reduced.

3. Roundness deviation when two axes are linked

(1) Axial deformation of the circle

This deformation may be caused by improper adjustment of the machine. Poor positioning accuracy of the axis or improper compensation of the screw clearance will cause roundness error when passing through the quadrant.

(2) Oblique ellipse error

At this time, you should first check the position deviation value of each axis. If the deviation is too large, you can adjust the position loop gain to eliminate it. Then check whether the interface board of the rotary transformer or induction synchronizer is adjusted properly, and then check whether the clearance of the mechanical transmission pair is too large and whether the clearance compensation is appropriate.
