CNC Machining Accuracy and Machining Error
2025-12-09
Machining accuracy refers to the degree to which the geometric elements of a machined part conform to the ideal part in terms of size, shape, and relative position. The closer the actual value is to the ideal value, the higher the machining accuracy.
Machining error refers to the deviation of the actual geometric parameters (size, shape, and relative position) of a machined part from the ideal geometric parameters.
Machining accuracy and machining error are essentially two perspectives on evaluating the same issue of part quality. Ensuring and improving machining accuracy is essentially about controlling and reducing machining error.
The Nature of Machining Error
Various single-factor errors can be classified into systematic errors and random errors based on their regularity when machining a batch of workpieces.
Systematic errors refer to errors whose magnitude and direction remain constant or change according to a certain pattern when sequentially machining a batch of workpieces. The former is called constant systematic error, and the latter is called variable systematic error. When machining a batch of workpieces sequentially, if the magnitude and direction of the error change irregularly, this type of error is called random error.
Statistical Analysis of Machining Accuracy
Currently, the main method for statistical analysis of machining accuracy is the distribution curve method. This method involves measuring the actual dimensions of a batch of machined parts, creating a dimensional distribution curve, and then using this curve to determine the magnitude of the error generated by the machining method.
